You can do it!

I have been sabotaging my efforts recently. It’s more than just Christmas excesses. I was doing so well, why would I sabotage it when I was starting to see progress? I had a session with Kate a few weeks back and, while doing Reiki, she channelled a message that I needed to read a poem by Marianne Williamson. The poem made me cry. Could this be the problem? Since then, I have been pondering a thought I remembered having as a young woman.

The thought was in response to a group of friends talking about me in a fairly condescending way. At the time I was writing a book about passionfruit. I also had a marketing idea for the low cost book. The friends, without reading any of my work, were very critical. They threw up every reason why it would not work. I remember thinking:

“Are the only people good enough to be successful writers those who you do not know?”

I threw in the towel quite quickly. I didn’t feel good enough to create something successful. Now I wonder if the problem was actually a fear of success. Sort of reverse tall poppy syndrome. I now think back. I knew the idea was good and would succeed. Why did I not continue?

I come back to Marianne’s words and they truly resonate.

Our Deepest Fear

By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves:

Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We are born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
